it ain't pretty

Nope, this ain't the recent-est wicked cool nail art. These are my fingernails: battered, chewed and inky after a hectic 4 days worth of character copying with a leaky pen. Normal service will soon be resumed.

Problems

Bad day today, my new favourite ever ASOS leather jacket I bought for an absolute bargain arrived and it was about a hundred million dulux colour shade charts away from the russet brown of the website photo. Absolutley horrible and a massive disappointment. Then to make matters worse I completely cocked up my Chinese oral exam, total disaster of comedy sketch proportions, my laptop freaked out and wouldn't stop playing a youtube clip of me speaking Chinese until I took the battery out...it was completely bad.

But yes, I have a few dressing golden rules that I try and stick to and a biggie is 'Don't get dressed in anger', or you try and channel some sort of...I can wear pedal pushers if I want vibe. But I like it.

Oh yeah, new problem, focusing.

grey day

I've spent waay too long sat in the same place at the kitchen table revising recently and it resulted in today being a bad grey day :( so I went out to a nice little colourful cafe nearby and revised there instead :) But the outfit is still pretty grey, and seeing it in a photo I think the hat emphasizes my surprisingly large head, which is something I'm going to have to take into consideration in future.

Dead mint

Yes that really is our failed attempt at a herb garden dying in the wintry sun behind me. This isn't much of an outfit, unless you really like black, which apparently I do. I'd never noticed before how often I seem to wear black. Anyway this is one of those useful day/bar shift outfits because I have to wear a black top at work. This t-shirt is also one of my favourites, it's dead plain but with pretty fly shoulder pads. The shoes as well I adore and wish I got more of a chance to wear out - they won't be going to work with me.

t-shirt: topshop, braces as belt: who knows? I found them in my wardrobe, trousers: UO, socks: My dads, probably M&S, shoes: H&M

Mint me

The ins and outs of an outfit right there. Apologise for the the dodgy facial expression, I have a dodgy face.

Grey cardigan: H&M (left at our party), silk top: vintage, jeans: topshop, boots: TK MAXX, necklace: Vivienne Westwood (prezzie off the bear), cream jacket: Barbour (£10 on eBay - cha-ching!), scarf: Liberty (via my granny) and the 'faux' China Mulberry again.

The silk top has to be one of my favourites at the moment, I bought it last November for my not-nieces christening. I was looking everywhere for a big drapy silk t shirt so when I found this for £16 in a vintage shop I was well haps, just what I was looking for and cheap. Although then I had to get the jersey edging taken off the sleeves and neckline to make it more christening-esque, which cost another £15, and then it worked out as too short so I had to splash out on a M&S slip which was another £18.....not my cheapest outfit. I think this faintly crappy phone photo is the only one I've got of the end result:

It was boss.

Not getting any easier

If a few weeks ago anyone had told me how hard it is to take photos of yourself indoors I don’t think I would have believed them. It really is tricky though and taking a peep at all the other blogs I follow it’s noticeable how many of the photos are taken outside, nearly all in fact, those that aren’t tend to also be a bit dark and not great. Unfortunately without a handy arty-type photographer friend/anyone with a steady hand about I'm stuck indoors. As you can see for this reason I tried taking one photo, then decided it was too dark, tried again elsewhere with little more success - sadface
Hmmmm.

scarf: vintage, snood: China, dress: China (Certainly bought in China....possibly at H&M, I had it altered and they got rid of the labels), jeggings: H&M, shoes: Kate Kanzier, bag: China (My 'faux' Mulberry)

No shoes

Thats right, I have no shoes on because if I had shoes on they would be those boots again and I'm realizing I need to re-spread my footwear wings. It will get a little more interesting soon, a combination of exams/being at home means I haven't exactly been adventurous.

Lemon Sorbet

Going out again! Exciting times.
Welcome to my litter sisters bedroom, I'm back down in London and as we have a polish lodger in what is definitely no longer 'my' room I have to stay in this weird pink room.

Shirt: tba (Christmas prezzie of the boyf), bodychain: UO, black jeggings: H&M, boots....well yeah.

Warming up

Daylight! Yes I'm learning, slowly. I think it seems fairly opportune too, walking back from the gym first thing it was sunny out - that north european bright, sunny but cold weather; and for the first time in a long time I remembered that sometimes it can be warm out. Happily I'm also not wearing completely dark colours for the first time, so bright happy days all round.

Trying again

I'm not getting any better at this 'photos before it gets dark' thing. Another change of scenery too, I'll probably settle down soon.

Coat: made in China, belt: vintage (and stolen from my mother), jeans: Topshop, jumper: H&M, bodychain: UO and boots.....Kate Kanzier again - I feel this is honesty, I got them for Christmas so I haven't stopped wearing them. This is normal.

Africa!

I get to go out tonight - woo! That doesn't happen that often these days. Just bought this top yesterday - I needed new gym stuff and it got me so sadface I had to buy 'myself' something as well. I'm actually wearing it backwards because it's supremely versitile with buttons down the black side and this:

on the 'front'. Happy days!

Top: H&M, boobtube/skirt: H&M, bodychain: UO and boots: Kate Kanzier (again...)

P.S apologise for the somewhat uninspired background.

Hello New You!!!

HELLO NEW YEAR!! HELLO NEW YOU!!
Lets not look back at past successes or past failures!!
Lets look forward to a 2011 of hard work and
new achievements - because you deserve it!!!
xx

So, unfortunately this blog cannot always be dedicated to what I'm wearing because some days I don't get dressed! Atrocious I know, thats the life of a student. Today I actually went backwards, I started the day getting dressed, came back from Liverpool and then slowly got more and more pyjamed as the day went on. The reason being, I'm back working. In the spirit of a fresh start I tarted up a fresh new page of my dissertation notebook with a small so ironic it hurts message of self-empowerment. Enjoy.

bear time

Off to Liverpool to see Bear today - woo!
I'm learning lessons as I go here, first one has to be - take photos before it gets dark and there isn't enough light in the flat to take a decent picture (I hate using the flash)

Hat: River Island (prezzie from my little brother), snood: Claires Accessories (prezzie from my big brother), leather jacket: Topshop (what you can't see is the foot long rip in the sleeve I really need to do something about), black jumper: nicked off my housemate, trousers: Urban Outfitters, Boots: Kate Kanzier

So it begins

Day 1 I suppose, and it's a bit of a cheat, I only popped down to the shops but in the name of pre-exam procrastination I dressed up for it.

Headscarf: vintage, cardigan: H&M ('gifted' by whoever left it at our party), pleather dress: made in China, boots: Kate Kanzier, watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs
