Barcelona!

Dress: UO, Shoes: Toms

For my boyfriends birthday I took him to Barcelona for a couple of days this last weekend and it was amazing! I wrongly thought I'd be able to blog from the hotel but they didn't have wifi!?! Turns out it's a privilege, not a right. Anyways all the photos are on his camera which I can't get my hands on today but watch this space...

the living is easy

Top: H&M, Dress as skirt & Sandals: UO

Shall I rave on about the awesomeness of the weather today? Nah.
First time this year I've had bare legs and sandals and it felt amazing. I've had two ice-creams in the last six hours and loved it.
This dress was a present from my boyfriend and whilst I love the girliness and fun the colour is pretty much my skin tone which rules out wearing it as a dress - sadface. But the skirt, skirt works.

MAO!

Jacket: £3 Shop, T-shirt: H&M, Trews: Zara, Trainers: Fei Yue

Mao! That's cat in Chinese, it's not all just me looking aggressive over here, although there is a lot of that going on today, no there's learning too.
£3 Shop, £1 Jacket.
Today has been spent book binding and card marking. My first foray into paperback binding a book and it's fairly easy, I wrote a childrens book for my boyfriends niece's first birthday and it's looking pretty cool. Exciting times.

So in right now.

Cardi: GAP, Shirt: £3 shop, Jeans: Zara

Anyone who lives in Manchester unless they do so with their head in a hole (ITV3 have an adaptation of 'Emma' on the TV as I write, therefore the voice in my head has become somewhat Austenien - thank your stars it's not The Wire or this post would be far more offensive), knows about the £3 vintage shop at the end of Oldham Street. Whilst many of the shops around there have become pricey and occasionally a bit boring the £3 shop is full of crap, which makes finding the occasional gem for £3 or less that much more satisfying. Like this shirt, it's big in a gawky way which I like and the pattern is very 'now' - quite exciting for me.

madwoman

This outfit turned out to be a nightmare, absolute and wholeheartedly awful. Tights + slip + skirt made apparently out of plastic = static nightmare. I made it out of the house but only as far as the toilets in the Arndale shopping centre where I desperately clawed at my static filled lower half with no avail and had to scurry back home looking like I was wearing some pink polka dot harem pants. And to think I left the house feeling so chic and ladylike.

cityscapes

Jumper: Huk, T-shirt: H&M, Trousers: Zara, Boots: TK Maxx

And life resumes! Finished exams and everything and now I have to whole summer stretching out in front of me, full of...nothing. I have classic post-exams, 'what do I do with my life?' confusion. Apparently I watch a lot of glee and tidy the flat, which isn't very satisfactory so I'll be working on something, probably involving eBay and Chinese bulk manufacturers.

Either way, this top was the other 'classics' buy except each stripe is made up of a little blue tinted cityscape, so there's probably nothing'classic' about it. Oh well.

Hope everyone's enjoying the mental four seasons in an hour weather.

New stuff

Top: H&M, Trousers: Zara, Shoes: Kate Kanzier

Right so on Wednesday we had our Chinese written exam which for me was an unmitigated disaster in the way only an exam you have to write in Chinese can be, so afterwards I went shopping and picked up both this top and trousers - the trousers from Zara I was pleasantly surprised to find fit, and with ankle zips! Being 5ft nothing with a 'strange' figure (read 'perfectly normal') I struggle to get trousers that fit without lots of rolling up so zips and exciting features are normally a no-no. After this I thought wearing new stuffs would make me forget the exam and feel all ooooh and oooh and new and excited.....but it didn't.

Scarf: India, Cardi:......somewhere a long time ago

Adding the cardi and scarf and vague jazz hands helped a bit but overall new clothes just feel too...new. I went for 'basics' and there just isn't the same excitement as picking up something like a mental vintage shirt from a car boot sale. But I suppose it has to be done.
Thrilling climax to a blog post right there.

I'm off to eurocultured to spend the day watching lots and lots of other people have loads of fun from behind a bar whilst sneakily imbibing as much free food and drink as possible. Anyone in Manchester, you should pop down!

(I still have one exam :( so blogging will be back to the back seat)

Sunday 15 May 2011

pretty funky for a white girl

Shirt: Vintage Jaeger from carboot £3, Badge: Tatty Divine (via my boyfriend), Shorts: Blue Rinse Vintage, Shoes: Miss Selfridges

Love this shirt, my boyfriend said it was 'funky', I think we both know what he meant was 'I love you, but you make it so so hard sometimes'.
Dissertation handed in on Friday which was such a relief - hence the silence. Three exams till I'm finished and actually finally get some letters after my name!

Bran.

Jacket: Korea, Shirt: Car Boot, Shorts: Blue Rinse Vintage, Boots: New Look, Necklace:....permanently borrowed off an old friend of mine who I know probably still wants it back

Another guitar I can't play!
I love the colour of this silk shirt and I picked it up for £3 but then it turned out to be massive so I cut the sleeves off in the hope it wouldn't look so huge. It didn't really work as now it's just massive round the shoulders but so long as I keep a cardi on at all times it's fine.

P.S Putney (the cat) came home! She wandered in after two nights away as if nothing had happened.

Spot the human

Shirt: Car Boot sale £3, Belt: floor at work, Shorts: Blue Rinse Vintage, Sunnies: China

Back down in London for the weekend, managed both the Royal Wedding from Hyde Park - which was spectacular and also back for Chiswick Car Boot Sale which is massive and a personal fave. Brilliant weekend, tainted only slightly by the shocking realisation my dissertation is in in less than two weeks and our baby cat's gone missing.

Mood Elephant

I found this trawling through some old stuff of mine, it seems to be stuck on navy so I thought it was broken but a quick look on the internet tells me..Green: Happy, Orange: Upset, Navy: Totally stressed out with loads of work on. Creepy.

Coat: H&M, Dress: Topshop via eBay, Belt:...might be a necklace, I found it on the floor at work

Like I can play guitar..it's my housemates.

Spotted and topp-ed.

Top: £1 Vintage place, Belt: Vintage off my Mum, Skirt: Oxfam

Oh, I'm sorry you caught me drinking tea! And almost caught me doing this...

Love a belly top. In the right context.

I got the skirt from an Oxfam in Liverpool on Saturday and it was £4 which to me seemed a bit pricey. I accept that charity shops are exactly that, charity, but I would have bought more stuff if everything hadn't been £4. There's a big difference between a casual £8 and a not so casual over the £10 mark £12, at least to an impoverished student. And know the clothes I bought hadn't been cleaned before sale...the lady I shuffled away from a million times because I was convinced it was her that smelt so bad probably isn't so aware of that.

xx

Notage: Bizarrely I just popped over to Fashion Pearls of Wisdom and found this Grazia spread:

what can I say, I hadn't seen any of this, but I'm quite clearly fashion psychic. All I need to do now is look half as good in my vintage version.

DIY multi-purpose bow

I feel this is a bit of a cheat really as it's a bit too simple to class as a proper DIY, but I whipped this together on a whim last Friday and it's been pretty successful. Simply get a bow tie (Blue Rinse Vintage on Oldham Street has a whole suitcase of £3 each ones for Manc. peeps)

Then hack at the thing with a pair of scissors to get the bow off the tie, realizing in the process this makes the bow fall apart. So do a quick bit of frankenstitching..

And that's pretty much it. After that you simply slide in your attachments for any purpose you want.

Easy pie!

All the pretty horses

Dress: Take Two (? - some sort of dicount cos it's broken shop in Liverpool), Slip: M&S, Necklace: China+Topshop

I was pretty bummed when only two weeks after buying this topshop necklace the chain was so orange it looks stupid. I only wore it for a few days. Definitely reminded me why I don't buy jewellery from most places. Luckily the struggle necklace came through for me as it always does.

Pick-me-up

Sunnies: charity shop, Shirt: TBA, Jeans: Topshop, Boots: KK

How sulky do I look? Actually I was in a bit of a bad mood, hence the pick-me-up shirt. I completely love this shirt/dress, the silks silkiness makes me feel all expensive and high quality - which I just ain't in real life. Pick-me-up sunglasses as well, I get all 'Yeah I'm an assassin - what's that Leon? You know who killed my family? Let's drink milk together and have a quasi-sexual/paedophilic relationship'.
If you know what I mean.
Clothes, they make you feel better/help you slip further into your fantasies of being things you're not.

Gggrrrreat minds think a-...what!?

Walking through Liverpool One yesterday I spotted this little coincidence which me and boyfriend found pretty funny so we took a piccie. I was about to post - just for lolz, when a little bit of research tells me:
Me: eBay Vintage Top + Blue Rinse Vintage Shorts = £45
Flannels: D&G Top + Acne Shorts = £365

Whooooweeee. Stuff's expensive, maybe the shorts (£130) are a great fit yadayadayada but a D&G oversized T for £235? Mines a silk oversized T and it was £26 on eBay (£13 of which was postage from America), and I can roll up the sleeves too!
Gosh.

Tuesday 5 April 2011

Same same but different

Dress(as skirt):
TK Maxx, Jackets: Korea/H&M, Jumpers:Huk/Coast

You wouldn't think this was me going 'I have an essay hand-in so I'll just pop on the same thing as yesterday'...No, hesitation, repetition or deviation.
The dress I bought for a Murder Mystery night I went to a few weeks back and it's gorgeous. I was supposed to be a 16 year old in the 20s (actually the 40s but I read the invite wrong...) and it was just right.

Sunday 3 April 2011

Heathcliff!

Thats right! The jig is up, it's me the soon-to-be-princess-formerly-known-as-waity-Katie Catherine Middleton!
Only kidding. The upcoming royal wedding is giving me prime reason to indulge in a little royal kitchanalia. Personally I think it's great, why shouldn't people be pleased other people are getting married? Our tax money is funding the police officers? Well Glastonbury gets police officers too...so it's alright (there's a line of logic there somewhere).
So hoorah for a little more happiness on a grey April day.

Ring: Sainsburys (£3)

Spraypaint

Top: Korea, Jeans: Uniqlo, Shoes: KK

Summer time woo yeah! So much work at the moment. I've hopefully got a few more interesting things up my blogging sleeve for the next few weeks, stuff that isn't outfits just takes a hell of a lot longer. Plus I like my rut, it's cosy in here.

Tuesday 29 March 2011

Growl.

Cardi:H&M, Top: eBay, Jeggings: H&M, Jacket: Korea, Bag:Blue Rinse Vintage

Sometimes you gotta love eBay,

leopard print = trashy
silk t-shirt = classy
silk leopard print t = me

I think thats as close as I can get to defining what attracts me to clothes, I like contradictions. Army jacket, in pink. Amber necklace, with a fly in it. Even more I can't wait to bust out my skull print jump suit in summer again.
How would you define what attracts you's to clothes?

A variation on a theme

Jacket:
H&M, Top: Vintage Jaeger, Shorts: Topshop (Though I've had them so long they're practically vintage), Tights: Topshop, Shoesies: KK, Bag: Blue Rinse Vintage, Necklace: Vivienne Westwood

As any return readers shall note this outfit is yet again a variation along a theme, this is how I roll. My life is like a 'Take ONE item and wear it for 30 days' blogging marvel.
I'm not gonna lie to you, I was a little bit worried the bag/jacket wouldn't go but actually pink and red? Fantastically clashy.
Terribly excited today as I've a list of things this big (stretch your arms out as far as they go) to do but the list is entitled "THINGS TO DO BEFORE CENTERPARCS WEEKEND" wooo! Twelve people, two executive lodges, one mega swimming pool. Can't wait.

Tuesday 22 March 2011

In the pink.

Jacket&Jumper:H&M, Jeans&Necklace: Topshop, Booties: Kate Kanzier, Silky Satiny Shirt: Vintage (? Probably, it's been in my wardrobe forever, so it's certainly wardrobe vintage)

Loong weekend in London. But my mum bought me a jacket! Admittedly it was in the sale at H&M but still she hasn't bought me any clothes in years, it was nice. Although I had it pointed out to me how many jacket/coats I own, and it's true. AND even better I found a fake pink Burberry scarf in my sisters room which is now my pink fake Burberry scarf. I am in ze pink.
